3.1 Notes on Linux Installation

This section on installation assumes that the user is familiar with basic Linux commands such as cd and ls. Commands run with root permissions are prefixed with #, while others are prefixed with $. Additionally this guide assumes that the target system has basic development tools necessary for compiling source code. If you did not install Fedora Core 7 with the software development option checked, please refer to Appendix A for the list of packages you will need to install.
